Man Attacked By Tiger Pleads No Contest To Charges
OAKLAND — A 20-year-old San Jose man who was attacked by a tiger at the San Francisco Zoo last Christmas entered a no contest plea on Thursday to shoplifting charges in Alameda County.Paul Dhaliwal was arrested in March, when police say a security guard at a San Leandro Target store spotted him grabbing two video game controllers.Investigators say they believe Dhaliwal also stole similar equipment from Target stores in Livermore and Hayward.Dhaliwal was awaiting transfer on Friday night to state prison to serve 16 months for violating parole and reckless driving. The reckless driving charge stems from a high-speed chase with police through San Jose in April 2007.Dhaliwal and his brother sued the City of San Francisco and the zoo earlier this week over the tiger attack.
