Giant octopus goes on display at West Valley zoo

Reported by: Alyssa Pivirotto

The Wildlife World Zoo & Aquarium just welcomed its latest arrival, a Giant Pacific Octopus.

The octopus was supposed to arrive from Vancouver, British Columbia several weeks ago but was delayed by bad weather. More specifically, delayed by record snow, rain and flooding in the Northwest.

Finally, the octopus arrived a few days ago.

As its name suggests, the Giant Pacific Octopus is the largest species of octopus found anywhere in the world. Its range extends over the northern Pacific Ocean from California northward to the arctic waters of the Aleutian Islands and then southward to Japan.

These animals have been reported to reach an arm span of 25 feet across and weigh several hundred pounds.

You can find the Wildlife World Zoo & Aquarium at 16501 W. Northern Ave. in Litchfield Park.

The zoo is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and the Aquarium is open 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., 365 days a year.

Admission to the zoo and aquarium is $26.50 for adults and $14.25 for children 3 to 12 (plus state sales tax), children under three are free.
