Zoo Calls for Unwanted Vegetation

Nashville Zoo is in need of leafy vegetation, or browse, for its animals.  Donations of bamboo (any size), hackberry, elm, redbud, sweetgum, hickory, willow, or cottonwood are all acceptable.  Please call the Zoo at 615-833-1534 with any donation information.

Browse is incredibly hard to find, especially during the winter months.  Please keep the Zoo in mind when trimming or removing trees.  If the site is within a 20-minute drive from the Zoo, staff will happily come and pick up the browse.  For sites further away, please consider asking the tree service, Metro or NES worker to drop the browse off at the Zoo.

The Zoo uses browse as an enrichment tool for many animals, from elephants to porcupines.  Browse provides both physical and mental stimulation that is essential to the overall well-being of the Zoo’s animal collection.  Due to dietary restrictions and the animals’ preferences, the Zoo cannot accept donations of: oak, sycamore, tulip poplar, cherry, maple, walnut, locust or any evergreen trees.

Nashville Zoo has many unique needs, from greenhouses to general household items, scales and medical equipment.  A complete wish list for the Zoo is available at www.nashvillezoo.org.

Nashville Zoo is accredited by the prestigious Association of Zoos and Aquariums, assuring the highest standards of animal care and husbandry.  The Zoo is a non-profit organization located at 3777 Nolensville Road and is open every day except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.  The mission of the Nashville Zoo is to inspire a culture of understanding and discovery of our natural world through conservation, innovation and leadership.  For more information about Nashville Zoo, call 615-833-1534 or visit www.nashvillezoo.org.
