This lovable little lemur has beaten all the odds to be the newest member of Franklin Park Zoo.
Proud primate parents Lulu and Tango will need to wait to see the newborn while it is hand-fed around the clock by zoo staff.
“Lulu has a history of not being able to produce enough milk,” said mammal curator John Piazza.
Lulu lost her first newborn due to this problem, but when she gave birth to Maki last April, zoo staff successfully hand-reared and reintegrated the little guy into the ring-tailed lemur exhibit.
This success and Lulu’s reproductive limitations led to a decision to give her a contraceptive. However, zoo staff soon realized they had missed some monkey business and began preparing for the arrival of this lucky lemur.
