Thailand zoo welcomes baby orangutan

(NECN: Thailand) – Songkhla Zoo in southern Thailand displayed a newborn male orangutan for the first time on Wednesday.

The baby orangutan was born to parents, Toto and Nancy, the zoo’s most favorite pair of orangutan. Since its birth about a month ago, zookeepers have nurtured the cub with special care.

Songkhla Zoo had previously been successful in natural breeding of orangutan. But, the latest cub was the zoo’s first in four years.

Zoo officials will soon begin receiving name suggestions for the baby orangutan from the public. If selected, the winner will be rewarded with money and one-year free admission to the zoo.

Thailand is also celebrating the first giant panda ever born in the country at a zoo in northern city of Chiang Mai. The baby panda was born to Lin Hui, the female panda on loan from China, on May 27.
