Starting Saturday, the Minnesota Zoo will no longer allow smoking on its grounds.
The Apple Valley zoo had previously disallowed smoking in its buildings, but allowed it outdoors. Starting Saturday, zoo visitors will only be allowed to smoke in the main parking lots.
The zoo cited health concerns and said it needs to have a cleaner environment. Nearly two out of three zoos and aquariums accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums are either entirely smoke-free or have designated smoking areas.
