Young giraffe makes her zoo debut
BBC News
A baby giraffe – the newest addition to a Cheshire zoo – has made her public debut alongside her parents.
The 5ft 6ins (1.68m) calf, who is yet to be named, is one of Chester Zoo’s tallest babies and was born to mother Kelly and father Thorn on 11 August.
Tim Rowlands, assistant curator of mammals, said both mother and daughter had “bonded well”. The calf brings the number of giraffes at the zoo to six.
The zoo has also welcomed two Kirk’s Dik-Dik antelopes to its collection.
The male and female antelopes have also made their first appearances in public.
The Kirk’s Dik-Dik is one of the smallest breeds of antelope and native to east and south west Africa.
It is the first time the species has been kept at the zoo.
