KANPUR: The ferocious man-eater leopard (female) which was brought to the Kanpur zoo from Katarnia Ghat near Bahraich on Monday has gradually started adapting to the zoo environment.
The female man-eater leopard had injured itself on Tuesday when it was kept in a cage. It was only after this incident that the zoo authorities were gasping for breath but with the passage of time, the leopard seems to be adjusting to the zoo environment.
Director, Kanpur zoological park, K Praveen Rao, told TOI, “the week is about to end and it seems that the female leopard is adjusting to the zoo conditions well, still we are taking necessary precautions to avoid it from turning into a ferocious animal again.”
“Therefore, the animal is given food on time and is not disturbed all through the day. We are just trying to provide confinement to the leopard so that it cools down further”, informed Rao.
Another zoo official added that, at present the female man-eater leopard is gradually recovering from the wound it had received by banging its head against the walls of the cage. Also, the keepers are training the leopard to adapt to the zoo environment.
“The leopard is under medical treatment and will be completely fine soon. After the completion of the training, the female leopard will learn to obey the instructions passed by the keepers. Once all this is done, the leopard will be shifted to the main enclosure of the leopards. This will provide it with ample space for movement and visitors will also get a chance to see it”, said the official further.
