KANPUR: Chief conservator of forest, Kanpur circle, Manoj Sinha, inspected the Kanpur Zoological Park here on Thursday.
During his visit to the zoo, Sinha inspected the enclosures of the various animals for cleanliness etc. He also interacted with the keepers and other zoo staff, discussing their problems.
Director, Kanpur zoo, K Praveen Rao, who was present during this inspection, was asked for the zoo management papers by Sinha. “I have handed over the necessary documents to the senior forest official on his demand,” said Rao.
“They also interacted with the animal keepers and supervisors, who were on duty in the zoo. After taking stock of the situation, he left for his next destination”, he added.
A zoo official informed TOI that the senior forest official was in the zoo to take the probe into the death of the 14 zoo inmates on September 12 to the next stage for which he had asked for certain documents from the zoo director.
It is to be recalled here that 14 zoo inmates (four male and nine female chital deer and one swamp deer) were found dead in highly mysterious circumstances on September 12. It was only after this that the principal chief conservator of Forest (Wildlife), B K Patnaik had suspended seven zoo staff members with immediate effect on charges of gross negligence.
The matter is currently under investigation and the four-member team constituted for the purpose is expected to submit its report soon, said a zoo official.
