Bristol Zoo holds birthday event for youngest gorilla
Bristol Zoo Gardens is inviting visitors to join them in celebrating their young gorilla’s birthday next month.
Zoo staff are holding an after hours event called ‘Ape and Cake’ on Sunday, December 6, to celebrate little Komale’s third birthday.
Guests will be able to enjoy tea and birthday cake at Gorilla Island after the Zoo has closed to the public, and have the chance to meet the keepers, ask questions and hear exclusive insights into the Zoo’s gorilla family.
The Zoo’s six gorillas – Jock, Salome, Romina, Namoki, Kera and little Komale – will also be given a special sugar free birthday cake as a treat for the occasion.
Assistant curator of mammals, Mel Gage, said: “This is sure to be a fantastic event giving people the opportunity to come to the Zoo after closing time and get exclusive insights into our beautiful family of gorillas.”
The event is a fundraiser for Bristol Zoo’s 2009 ‘Year of the Gorilla’ campaign, which aims to raise funds and awareness to help the survival of these critically endangered animals through the Zoo’s work here and in Cameroon.
Earlier this year the Zoo held a similar event to celebrate the 26th birthday of the Zoo’s resident silverback gorilla, Jock.
Ape & Cake will be held on Sunday, December 6, from 5.30pm-7pm. Tickets cost £15 each, spaces are limited and booking is essential. Phone 0117 974 7300 or email receptionist@bristolzoo.org.uk.
