Three tiger cubs born at Ragunan zoo
The Jakarta Post
A Sumatran tiger gave birth to three cubs at Ragunan Zoo, South Jakarta, on Thursday, the head of the zoo, Enny Pudjiwati, said Wednesday.
“The delivery was successful and all the three cubs are now in stable condition,” Enny said Wednesday.
She, however, said the sex of the newborns was still unknown because the mother was very protective and would not let anyone near the cubs.
“We hope we can introduce the cubs to the public after a month,” Enny said.
With the three newborns, Ragunan Zoo currently has 35 Sumatran tigers.
The Sumatran tiger is classified as an endangered species and is protected by law.
According to the World Wide Fund for Nature, there are less than 500 Sumatran tigers in the wild, and the number is declining due to illegal logging and deforestation. – JP
