The St. Louis Zoo plans a memorial to a 7-year-old boy who was struck and killed by a drunk driver outside the zoo entrance.
KTVI reported Wednesday that a zoo spokeswoman says a pedestrian foot bridge under construction at the zoo will include a memorial to Luke Maue of St. Peters.
Luke died when a drunk driver struck and killed him outside the zoo’s south entrance as his class ended a school field trip on May 18, 2001.
His mother, Angie Maue, had been fighting to have a marker put up in his memory for years.
The bridge will carry visitors over the road where Luke died. Visitors will no longer have to cross through vehicle traffic to get to the zoo gates.
