San Jose’s zoo to reopen after renovation

SAN JOSE, Calif.—San Jose’s zoo is set to reopen after a multimillion dollar renovation project that kept it closed for nearly two years.
Happy Hollow Park and Zoo officials say the revamped zoo will open to the public on March 20. The zoo has added several new exhibits and children’s rides and is four acres larger.
Zoo curator Valerie Riegel says visitors will get to see new animals, including spider monkeys and red-ruffed lemurs.
The zoo has also gone green, adding radiant flooring to heat and cool buildings and growing roofs. The new facility will recycle water and keep all rainfall on site.
The $72 million renovation was mostly funded by a parks bond approved by voters in 2000. The zoo closed its doors in July 2008 for the project.
